Nutri-Lawn Team

Released January 19th, 2010

Hello everyone!!

Our team returned last week from another very rewarding experience in the Dominican Republic. Our team of 11 set out to make a difference in the lives of the 200 children living on site in San Pedro. I think the team will agree that we accomplished our goals, and much more. Our initiatives this year included:

1. A 10 000 sq. ft. expansion of the soccer field we built last year to accommodate a larger number of children on the field at a time for weekly games and to accommodate a local junior team that plays on the field once a month in exchange for coaching the kids soccer.

2. Top dressing, fertilizing and maintenance of last year’s project, the soccer field (which by the way is getting a lot of really good use)

3. The installation of “Drip Tape” to expand the current Yucca crop operation on site

4. The planting and irrigating of an orchard at an outreach project run by a group of Brazilian Nuns (100 fruit trees). This project took our team less than a day and will bear fruit in 2 years time to be used to assist in feeding the needy villages in the immediate area of the orphanage; in fact many of the orphans are from some of the villages that this food will supply.

5. We held an offsite bbq for 450 children on Saturday January 9th at an area “batey” (village). Many of the children (all under the age of 10) had never held a hot dog before! We fed them a hot dog, a coke, Oreo cookies, a bag of popcorn and a lollipop in a somewhat orderly fashion.

I am very proud of the team work and the outcome of the 2010 group. It’s extremely difficult to be efficient and effective when working in a 3rd world country where the only thing that seems to make sense is the sunrise and sunset and yet again this year, we were able to complete our projects on time, and under budget.

Please join me in thanking our 2010 team for making a difference and I encourage you to make contact with them directly to hear first hand of their experiences:
